Francesca Müller

Marble Unica

A visit to the quarry led Francesca Müller where the raw power and beauty of marble are revealed. There, lichens grow, chemically decomposing the calcium carbonate of the rock using lichen acids: an image of organic growth and solid marble, of transience and permanence.

Inspired by the lichens’ silent conquest, she integrated their structures directly into her textile design for the site-specific work “Unica.” She photographed fragments of the marble and combined these digital images with AI-generated lichen structures.

Lahn Marmor Museum Villmar

The Lahn Marble Museum invites you to a solo exhibition: In the limited edition series “Woven from Stone,” textile designer Francesca Müller blurs the boundaries between matter and perception on the tapestries. What at first glance appears to be cool, solid stone reveals itself upon closer inspection as a soft, tactile fabric: an impressive illusion that deceives the eye and stimulates the sense of touch.
