Geometry of Waste Rug

Price range: € 450,00 through € 1.320,00

Flatweave rugs in India are called as well dhurries. A dhurrie is a flat-woven textile made on a horizontal loom, with no pile and no knotting. The structure is entirely woven – tight, reversible, and lightweight. Originating across the Indian subcontinent, dhurries have been produced for centuries in Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, serving as rugs, seating surfaces, and household textiles in both royal courts and village homes.

THE SYSTEM

Deadstock Yarn

Deadstock yarns are surplus materials left over from previous production runs that would otherwise go unused, and can be repurposed into unique products.

One-of-a-Kind Pieces

The rugs explore the potential of deadstock yarns in creating one-of-a-kind pieces. A physical record of the surplus repurposed at the exact hour of production.

Production on Demand

Each rug is produced on demand & grouped into batch orders, allowing production & shipping to be coordinated more efficiently while avoiding unnecessary stock.

Geometry of Waste

The rug design follows a grid-based pattern with four color positions. The color rules determine how the available surplus yarns are used.

Changes of Colours

The colors act as a guideline, with each rug’s final palette evolving from the closest available deadstock yarns, making every piece unique. No sampling is involved.

Supporting Local Craftmanship

Ten percent of sales is donated to an NGO supporting local flatweave craftsmanship.

COLOUR SHIFTS

Colour Change

Due to the use of deadstock yarns and the avoidance of dyeing new materials, the colours shown in the design file serve as a guideline. The final palette will be matched as closely as possible using the yarns available in the archive.

Colour Transition

As deadstock yarns are available only in limited quantities, a single colour area may occasionally transition between closely related shades. These subtle variations are an inherent part of the production process and contribute to the uniqueness of each piece.
